Part I - About The GMAT - www.mba.com The GMAT is a half-day Computer Adaptive Test administered on the computer. It is produced and marketed by the Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC). It consists of a verbal section with three types of questions (reading comprehension, critical thinking and sentence correction) and a quantitative section with two types of questions (problem solving and data sufficiency). In addition, there is an Analytical Writing Assessment (AWA) exercise which is reported as a separate score and not part of the overall GMAT score. Much information may be learned about the GMAT by visiting the GMAC web site at: www.mba.com. In addition, we invite you to read our "GMAT Report" at:http://www.prep.com/gmat/cat/report.html
Part II - Exploring
The MBA - The GMAT Bulletin
In addition to visiting the GMAT web site at www.mba.com
we recommend that you read the new GMAT Bulletin of information. It contains
valuable and well organized information about "Exploring The MBA." This
free publication may be downloaded at:http://www.mba.com
Part III - The
Role Of The GMAT Score In MBA Admissions
Almost all schools offering the MBA program use the GMAT
score as part of the admissions process. GMAT scores are reported on a scale
of 200 to 800. Although an average GMAT score is approximately 500, there
is no established passing or failing GMAT score. Each school is free to
decide what GMAT score will satisfy its admissions requirements.
Part IV - How To
Register For The GMAT And When The GMAT May Be Taken - 1 800 717-GMAT
- www.mba.com
You must register for the GMAT and there is a fee. The
two easiest ways to register for the GMAT are:
1. online at www.mba.com;
and
2. by calling 1 800 717-GMAT.
You make your own appointment for the GMAT at whichever test center you
choose. It is important to note that the GMAT may not be taken more than
once in a 31 day period.
Part V - How To
Select A GMAT Program
Real GMAT Questions Are Available - How To Access Them
Many real GMAT questions have been made available by GMAT. On the mba.com
web site you will find the Official GMATPrep Software which is available
for free download and additional sample questions. You may also order
the current edition of the Official Guide For GMAT Review which contains
additional practice questions.
Learning To Answer GMAT Questions
You don't need a GMAT course to access GMAT questions. You do need a
GMAT course to improve your ability to answer the questions. When considering
a GMAT program you should ask:
1. What does the course teach?
2. Who is it that does the teaching?
3. What is included with the course materials?
4. What is the format of the course - evenings, weekends or both?
5. Does the course offer any kind of guarantee?
Part VI - About
The Prep.com GMAT Program - "Chance Favors The PREPared Mind"
The prep.com Program -
25 Years Of Results
Prep.com partners with the finest testprep programs to
bring you the best preparation available. Our GMAT program is offered in
conjunction with the Richardson - Career Counseling And Test Prep Center.
Since 1979 it has prepared thousands and thousands of students for graduate
and professional school admissions. Based in Toronto, it offers complete
admissions programs for Law School, Medical School, MBA, and Graduate School.
Much of our GMAT teaching continues to be done by: John Richardson, B.A.,
LL.B., J.D.
He is the developer of our course. He is also the author of:
- Law School Bound;
- Mastering The LSAT - How To Prepare Effectively;
- Mastering The Personal Statement - The Complete Marketing Manual For
Law - MBA - Medical And Grad School
Our Program Teaches
- Approach - "Because, Practice Without Approach Is Hazardous"
We teach you a complete approach for taking the GMAT.
The skills that you will learn are transferable and applicable (in a general
way to) any GMAT question you encounter.
The Seven Components Of A Sound Approach!
For each of the GMAT question types, we tackle the following seven components:
Component 1 - Background Skills - GMAT test takers are required
to answer the questions in the order given. Furthermore, you will not
receive a new question before having answered the existing question. This
means that there ARE rules of "GMAT Math" that must be reviewed. The good
news is, that with few exceptions, the level of math will not go beyond
what is commonly taught in grade 10. (The GMAT is not a math test, but
rather a test of multi-step problem solving skills.) It is obvious that
certain rules of grammar are frequently tested. Test takers must recognize
the proper application of these rules.
Solution: Although our courses are not designed to be a complete
review of high school level math, we do review the relevant background
skills in the context of each GMAT question type. For those who wish to
begin reviewing their math prior to the course we recommend the book:
GRE-GMAT Math Review by David Frieder.
Component 2 - GMAT Process - Your best performance on certain
question types (of which data sufficiency is the best example) is dependent
on your knowing and executing a very specific procedure.
Solution: We teach a very specific and precise procedure, from
start to finish, for how to identify correct (or "best") answers.
Component 3 - Timing - Time is not your ally! All test takers
have difficulty finishing the GMAT. Your GMAT score is a reflection of
now you perform relative to other test takers under severe time constraints.
Solution: We improve your timing skills in the following ways:
- by teaching you to identify what GMAT questions are really asking (the
skill of rephrasing) and how to get started quickly;
- by teaching you how to quickly identify what is wrong and quickly identify
common traps.
Time is the currency of the GMAT.Component 4 - GMAT Technology
- GMAT questions are the result of a sophisticated technology and a predictable
design requirement. The technology includes a recognition that "wrong
answer choices" are often "very rational answer choices." Test takers
need to learn the predictable ways in which the GMAT designers attempt
to attract you to answers (that are wrong but rational) and divert you
from right answers (that are right but surrounded by clutter).
Solution: We teach you how GMAT makes wrong answers seem attractive
and makes right answers seem unattractive. (Those who find Critical Reasoning
and Reading Comprehension problematic should take careful note.)
Component 5 - Multiple Choice - GMAT technology and design are
firmly rooted in the reality that the GMAT is multiple choice.
The basic rule of answer choice design is that:
GMAT will design its answer choices for the purpose of attracting you
to answer choices that are wrong and repelling you from answer choices
that are right!
Wrong Answer Choice Elimination
GMAT works hard to attract you to wrong answer choices that are either:
- very wrong and easy to eliminate; or
- wrong but rational, making them harder to eliminate.
We recommend that you make "wrong answer choice elimination" your first
priority.
Right Answer Recognition
GMAT works hard to disguise the right answer among the remaining choices.
The disguise appears in many forms. For example, in the quantitative section,
the answer choices may be expressed in units that are different from the
units in the question. In the verbal section, the right answer may be
padded with irrelevant information making harder to identify the answer
as being correct.
In Search Of The Best Answer - The Interaction Between Wrong Answer
Elimination And Right Answer Recognition
Optimal GMAT performance results from the interaction between identifying
what is clearly wrong (usually 2 or 3 choices) and recognizing which of
the remaining choices is best.
Solution: We teach you how to eliminate wrong answers quickly
and routinely. The effect of this will be that you will work much more
quickly, achieve more right answers, and (in the worst case scenario)
ensure that your best guess is on record. Our program is designed to make
"multiple choice your friend!"
Component 6 - The Rules Of Engagement For The GMAT CAT - The Computer
Adaptive GMAT (CAT) adds a new level of complexity to the GMAT experience.
Many test takers underperform because they don't understand how the GMAT
CAT has been designed to work.
Solution: Our course includes a thorough discussion of how the
GMAT CAT operates, and how you can turn that format to your advantage.
Component 7 - The Effectiveness Of Home Study - It's NOT Practice
That Makes Perfect, It's Perfect Practice That Makes Perfect!
GMAT preparation on your own is difficult. For most people it amounts
to nothing more than practicing questions. But, practice without approach
is often unproductive. By teaching you a complete process to the GMAT,
you will practice specific skills. In this way our course will increase
the value to you of home study!
Learning these seven components and integrating them into a complete
approach will dramatically improve your GMAT score.
Our Teachers -
Professionals NOT Students
Many GMAT courses use students as teachers. In fact, when
it comes to GMAT teachers, students have become the "industry standard."
The prep.com GMAT program does not have a single "student" instructor. At
present our least experienced teacher is a professional who has taught prep.com
programs for 6 years.
Your Course Materials
- 4 Items Including REAL GMAT Questions Not Available To The Public
Course participants will receive the following as part
of their course fee:
1. Richardson - Prep.com - Course Manual
This consists of approximately 300 pages of practice questions covering
all GMAT question types. The course manual also includes a comprehensive
"GMAT Math" Review Workbook and a comprehensive "GMAT Grammar" Review.
2. Richardson - Prep.com - Course Workbook
This consists of approximately 60 pages of topical teaching exercises.
For the most part these will be used as the basis for in-class instruction.
3. GMAT CD Rom
In addition to providing additional sample questions, our GMAT CD
will help you make the transition from a traditional "paper and pencil"
based test to a computer based test.
4. Real GMAT Questions Available Only To You - An Official GMAT Guide
no longer available!
Practice with real GMAT questions is essential. The GMAT test designers
have access to a bank of questions going back for many years. The ONLY
source of real GMAT questions is GMAT. GMAT questions are available only
in the GMATPrep software and in the Official Guide For GMAT Review. (A
limited number of questions are available on the mba.com site.) The "Official
Guide" changes every few years. As part of your course fee we will give
you an edition of the Official Guide that is no longer available to the
public. This gives you access to real GMAT questions that your competitors
do not have!
5. GMATPrep software is produced by GMAT and is FREE for downlead
from the mba.com site. Although it does not come from us we consider it
to be mandatory for anybody preparing for the GMAT.
Our GMAT Program
- Runs on Weekends When You Are Alert And NOT Evenings When You Are Tired
For more than 25 years we have run every conceivable type
of GMAT program. We learned very quickly that evening classes are far less
helpful than weekend classes. To put it simply: GMAT preparation is very
hard work and after a day of very hard work, few people have much energy
left for the evenings. Classes on weekends are more effective!
A "Guarantee?"
- FREE Repeat Policy - Valid For 6 Months
It is impossible to guarantee GMAT scores. But, we will
guarantee that:
You may repeat your course one time free of charge, in any of the six
months following the month in which you took our course. The FREE repeat
option applies without consideration of whether or not you took the GMAT.
The only condition is that: you must reregister by emailing: mailto:gmatprepregister@gmail.com
at least three days prior to the start of the course you desire specifying
the dates that you first took the course.
"If Everybody Were The Same We Would Offer Only One Kind
Of GMAT Course!"
This program generally consists of 4 days of instruction running on the
Saturday and Sunday of two consecutive weekends. Homework exercises are
assigned at the end of each weekend. Approximately half of the time is
spent on the quantitative and half of the time is spent on the verbal.

The
Difference Between The One And Two Weekend Course Formats
The one weekend course is the first weekend of the two
weekend course. The second weekend is devoted to additional quantitative
topics and verbal (particularly in the area of grammar in the verbal and
geometry and counting methods in the quantitative). In addition, the AWA
(Analytical Writing Assessment) is covered in the two weekend course. Furthermore,
the second weekend operates as valuable reinforcement for topics covered
in the first weekend. We recognize that some of you have time for only one
weekend. During the one weekend program we will cover all the topics that
are absolutely essential.
